The Art of Grocery Shopping

By Angelique Millis

Now that the holidays are over, everyone is scrambling to hit the gym and get back on track. While you may have every intention in the world of toning up, losing body fat and leading a healthier lifestyle, you cannot go into this journey without an effective food strategy. Even if you were to workout 2 hours a day, if your food plan is weak or non-existent, it will be a reflection of your overall progress.

One of the key components to any exercise and diet plan are an effective strategy for food planning and preparation which all begins, at yep you guessed it- at the grocery store!
If your New Year's Resolutions include flat abs, a round butt and toned arms, here are some tips that will help take the guesswork out of a productive shopping trip s you can achieve the Bikini Body of your dreams:

1) Have a well drafted Grocery List-
Don't wander down the aisles aimlessly grabbing whatever you think you will need. Make a list of what you need to reach your health and fitness goals. Do not buy things you know you will not eat, rather try finding healthy recipes you like. Taking this extra step will lead you down the road to good nutrition!

Here are some of my favorite "Fit Foods" that every woman should have in her kitchen and can be prepared in so many fun and healthy ways with just a few ingrediants:

Produce:
Romaine Lettuce
Sweet Potatoes
Brocolli
Asparagus
Blueberries

Meat:
Chicken Breast
95% Lean Ground Beef
Large Jumbo Shrimp

Dairy:
Lowfat yogurt
Eggs
Lowfat shredded cheese

Grains:
Plain Quaker Oatmeal
Wholegrain Bread
Brown Rice
Barley

2) NEVER go to the store hungry-
You will overspend and most importantly buy things you don't want and don't need!

3) Designate one day a week as your shopping and food preparation day

4) Shop the perimeters of the store first to get the essentials before going down the center aisles

5) Avoid the freezer section- everything you find there is loaded with preservatives.
